Texas Rangers righthander and future Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan established the Major League record for career no-hitters

On June 11, 1990, MLB Texas Rangers Nolan Ryan tossed his sixth career no-hitter, beating Oakland, 5-0. The 41-year-old flamethrower struck out 14 batters during the game, as he continued to defy Father Time and rewrite the record books.

It was another remarkable chapter in a career that seemed to grow more extraordinary with age. Ryan allowed just two hits and walked three, overpowering an Oakland lineup that featured several dangerous hitters despite being more than two decades into his major league career. The no-hitter extended a record he already owned and further cemented his status as one of baseball’s most dominant pitchers.
What made the performance even more astounding was Ryan’s age. In the twilight of his career, he was competing against players young enough to be his sons, yet his blazing fastball and devastating breaking pitches remained among the most feared weapons in the game. Fans at Arlington Stadium witnessed history as Ryan repeatedly reached back for extra velocity whenever he needed it most.
The achievement added another milestone to a résumé that would eventually include 5,714 strikeouts, seven no-hitters, and a place among the greatest pitchers the sport has ever known.
