The defending AL West Champions looked a little stagnant early in the year, but have returned to championship form recently, having won their seventh game in a row on Monday night

SEATTLE, WA | The Seattle Mariners continued their winning ways on Monday night, as they defeated the New York Mets, 3-2 in 10 innings, to capture their seventh victory in a row. After coming within one game of the World Series this year, the M’s are currently looking like a team that’s focused on the franchise’s first-ever Fall Classic Appearance in October.
Cole Young drove home the winning run in the bottom of the 10th with an opposite-field bloop that plated Randy Arozarena to send the fans home happy. Third baseman Colt Emerson and first baseman Josh Naylor both had solo shots for Seattle, who rank seventh in MLB with 76 home runs as a team. Emerson, the team’s top young star, has three home runs and eight RBI in 44 at-bats this season.
After making a series of offseason moves to take the next step, including trading for multi-talented Brendan Donovan, Seattle was projected as one of the favorites to win the American League Championship in 2026. They certainly look like that crown would fit them well — at least as we begin the month of June.
Those are the basic factors for the M’s during this current streak, which has seen them jump to the top of the American League West standings. They currently own a 32-29 record and a 2.5 game lead over the Texas Rangers, who defeated St. Louis on Monday to match the Mariners’ momentum.
“It’s hard to win seven games in a row,” Seattle starter Emerson Hancock said, after tossing six innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven Mets hitters. “It’s been, I feel like, each game has just been a complete team win.”
June 2nd is recognized as ‘Lou Gehrig Day’ in ballparks all around Major League Baseball, and Seattle will be in action later in the evening. They send right-hander Logan Gilbert (3-4, 3.69 ERA, 69 strikeouts in 2026) to the mound as they go for nine in a row. The Mets starter has yet to be named. First pitch at T-Mobile Park is expected to take place at 7:40 PM Pacific Time.
