The Cardinals’ shortstop is reportedly fine after a scary single-car accident following his team’s win on Wednesday against the New York Mets

Sunday was an exciting day for St. Louis Cardinals’ shortstop Masyn Winn. Maybe a little too exciting.
The 24-year-old Winn was involved in a single-car accident on Interstate 64 due to wet pavement from rain in the St. Louis area, not long after his team wrapped a victory over the New York Mets. Oddly enough, Win had the walk-off hit in the game, a run-scoring blooper in the Rebirds’ 2-1, 11-inning win over the Guys from Gotham.

The 2025 Gold Glove winner was shaken up, but not injured in the accident. The St. Louis Cardinals released a statement updating fans and media regarding the shortstop’s situation. He will not miss any time on the field and reportedly isn’t facing any serious charges.
“Following today’s game, Masyn Winn was involved in a single-car accident (on Interstate 64) due to wet pavement,” a statement from the team stated. “Masyn, who was alone in the vehicle, was attended by local police, Cardinals security, and medical staff. He was examined at a nearby hospital and suffered no serious injuries.”
So, it all turned out to be water under the bridge, as the Cardinals (4-2) will look to keep their surprisingly winning ways going.
However, for a franchise that has suffered the losses of two players, pitcher Josh Hancock and outfielder Oscar Tavares, to car crashes in the past 25 years, it was a scary reminder of how quickly tragedy could strike. In this case, one of MLB’s most promising young stars was spared, and Cardinal Nation breathed a sigh of relief.
After opening the season with a 4-2 home stand, the Redbirds will put rubber to road, traveling to Detroit for three games against the Tigers. They will follow that up with a three-game road set against the Washington Nationals.
