TODAY IN SPORTS HISTORY… Aug 13th: Lou Brock gets his 3,000th Hit

Lou Brock 3000 hits

On August 13th, 1979, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder and future Hall of Famer Lou Brock registered his 3,000 career MLB hit. The milestone came against the Chicago Cubs and pitcher Dennis Lamp, with a crowd of 44,457 at Busch Stadium looking on. At the time, he was the 14th player in Major League history to achieve that mark.

Upon his retirement, Brock would also leave the game as the all-time stolen base leader (later broken by Rickey Henderson) and having captured two World Series titles with St. Louis in 1964 and 1967.

Lou Brock was considered a true gentleman and ambassador to the sport, as well as a fixture of the St. Louis Cardinals franchise. Even after his retirement, Brock stayed close to the organization and community.

Lou Brock passed away on September 6, 2020, at the age of 81
