The Yankee Clipper hits safely in his 56th straight game, setting an MLB record that still stands to this day

On July 17th, 1941, Yankees outfielder Joe DiMaggio went 3-for-4, hitting in his 56th straight game, which would be the final game of his incredible streak. Joltin’ Joe had already established the MLB record when he passed ‘Wee Wille’ Keeler’s former Mark of 44 games, originally set in 1897.
DiMaggio’s run would end the next day, but the Yankee Clipper had established a record that many believe will never be broken.
