TODAY IN SPORTS HISTORY… July 15th: Nolan’s Second No-No

On July 15th, 1973, California Angels pitcher Nolan Ryan fired off the second no-hitter of his career in a 6-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers. The future Hall of Famer allowed only four walks and struck out 17 batters in one of the many defining moments in his illustrious MLB tenure.

‘The Express’ would pitch well into his forties, including successful stints with the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. Eventually, he would walk away from the game with a record seven no-hitters.

Nolan Ryan retired from baseball in 1993 and still holds the record for most lifetime strikeouts, with 5,714 career Ks. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999.
