TODAY IN SPORTS HISTORY… July 9th: Wilt Chamberlain Joins the Lakers


On July 10, 1968, the Philadelphia 76ers traded star center Wilt Chamberlain for Archie Clark, Darrell Imhoff, Jerry Chambers, and cash. At the time, ‘Wilt the Stilt’ was the reigning NBA MVP.

Chamberlain would go on to lead the Lakers to the NBA Championship in 1972, and he was named MVP of that year’s finals. Along with numerous unbelievable accolades, he was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1978.
