The Former World Heavyweight Champion gets reprimanded for his vicious behavior during his fight with Evander Holyfield

On July 1, 1997, the Nevada State Athletic Commission suspended Mike Tyson indefinitely and withheld his $20 million purse. This came after Tyson had been disqualified for biting Evander Holyfield’s ear during their heavyweight title fight on June 28.
It was Holyfield’s second win over ‘Iron’ Mike, who had multiple run-ins with the law before, during, and after his time in the ring. He lost four years of his career after being found guilty of rape charges in 1992.
Considered two of the greatest heavyweights of their generation, the boxing battles between Holyfield and Tyson came at a time when both men were entering the downside of their collective careers.
