TODAY IN SPORTS HISTORY… June 30th: Sandy Koufax hurls his First No-Hitter

On June 30th 1962, Los Angeles Dodgers’ pitcher Sandy Koufax no-hits the New York Mets, 5-0. It was the first of four career no-hitters thrown by Koufax, as the future Baseball Hall of Famer carved out a legendary legacy in a relatively short amount of time.

Koufax would include a perfect game amongst his four no-nos, over a 12-year Major League career, all with the Dodgers. The man nicknamed ‘The Left Arm of God’ would be forced to retire in his early 30s due to injuries. He would compile a 165-87 record, with 2,396 strikeouts and a 2.76 ERA. He helped the Dodgers win four World Series titles and was the Most Valuable Player of the Fall Classic on two occasions. Koufax was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972.
