Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal lead the Miami Heat to an NBA Finals victory over the Dallas Mavericks

On June 20, 2006, the Miami Heat defeated the Dallas Mavericks, 95-92, in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, securing their first title in franchise history. Guard Dwyane Wade was named the series’ Most Valuable Player.
Following the departure of center Shaquille O’Neal, the Heat would regroup just a few years later by adding LeBron James and Chris Bosh alongside Wade, forming a ‘Big Three’. That incarnation of the Heat would win back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. With a total of three titles, Miami is the most successful NBA expansion franchise in modern history, after entering the league in 1988.
