There may be no better nickname in modern sports than ‘The Unicorn.’ That’s what San Antonio Spurs second-year superstar Victor Wembanyama truly is. He’s an anomaly, a mirage… something you only get to see once in a lifetime. And even when you do, you’re unsure what you just saw.
Wemby, a 7’4″ wunderkind who defies all laws of science, has emerged as the future face of the NBA. The 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year racked up 24.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks per game. He returned this year with a vengeance as his team continues to climb back into respectability. The Spurs sat at 19-22 after their first 41 games of the 2024-2025 campaign.
While he’s not the leading contender for the Most Valuable Player Award, Wembanyama’s been a part of the discussion. Right now, at the halfway point of the season, he’s averaging 24.4 points and 10.6 boards a night.
