The Cardinals Have Gone From A Perennial Contender to An Also-Ran over the Last Two Seasons

As one of the proudest and most decorated teams in Major League Baseball history, the St. Louis Cardinals are typically among the game’s elite. For over 140 years, the franchise has been a standard of excellence, winning 11 World Series and capturing 19 National League Pennants. They’ve been—for the most part—a portrait of excellence throughout the years.
Unfortunately, the last two seasons haven’t been kind to the Cards. They finished in last place in the National League Central Division in 2023 with a 71-91 record. It was the first time the Redbirds had been cellar dwellers in over three decades. They followed up that dreadful performance with a respectable 83-79 mark last season, but still finished 10 games behind the first-place Milwaukee Brewers.
